IMERCY Berikan Solusi Usir Hama di Lahan Tani Desa Plaosan Wonoayu Sidoarjo

As part of the Innovillage 2025 program, IMPACT (IMERCY Pest and Crop Tracker) was officially installed in Plaosan Village, Wonoayu District, Sidoarjo, on February 22, 2025. Innovillage is a sociopreneurship competition in technology and digital innovation organized by PT Telkom Indonesia to encourage technology-based solutions. The installation of IMPACT was driven by the persistent pest problem that often leads to crop failure. Previously, farmers relied on chemical pesticides, which negatively impacted soil quality and the environment.

To address this issue, IMERCY introduced IMPACT, an environmentally friendly pest repellent powered by solar energy and batteries. IMPACT operates by emitting ultrasonic waves at frequencies ranging from 15 to 50 kHz, effectively deterring pests such as rats, rice birds, and brown planthoppers. To optimize its usage, IMPACT has been developed in two forms:

  1. IMPACT Stationary, which is installed at a fixed location and operates alongside the SQyM (Soil Quality Monitoring System).
  2. IMPACT Portable, designed to accommodate the vast agricultural areas of Plaosan Village, allowing farmers to move it to different locations as needed.

The installation process involved connecting the device to batteries and solar panels. The IMERCY team also conducted performance testing to ensure the device functions optimally and remains secure against strong winds. The installation sites were strategically selected to maximize the range of ultrasonic waves, ensuring the device effectively repels pests in the rice fields.

The following day, on February 23, 2025, the IMERCY team conducted a socialization event at the Plaosan Village Hall to introduce IMPACT to farmers, the village head, and local officials. The event was also attended by representatives from the Gerakan Pembaru and SDGs UNAIR. The primary objective was to educate farmers on the operation, maintenance, and benefits of IMPACT in reducing dependence on chemical pesticides. In addition to the presentation, the team conducted a live demonstration, allowing farmers to operate the device and observe how ultrasonic waves effectively repel pests.

Drs. Anwar, Secretary of Wonoayu District, expressed his enthusiasm for IMPACT, highlighting its ability to assist farmers in managing pests without harming the environment. He commended the innovation brought by the IMERCY team and provided suggestions for future improvements. In response, Haikal, the Chairman of IMERCY, stated that the team greatly valued the feedback from the village representatives. “We are delighted by the positive response from all of you. The feedback provided will serve as valuable input for our team to further develop IMPACT, and we remain open to exploring additional innovations in the future.” Farmers in Plaosan Village also expressed their willingness to collaborate further in developing and evaluating the device to enhance its effectiveness in the long run.
